01 · WHAT WE FOUND

We checked 18 things. 7 of them are costing money.

Here is the whole audit in one picture. Green is fine. Red needs fixing.

Good setup, bad results

The technical side is solid. The results are not.

The good news: Google rates the domain High. It is 13 years old, on zero blacklists, and scores 10 out of 10 on a full spam test. Nothing is fundamentally broken.

The bad news: spam complaints hit 0.69% when Google's limit is 0.30%. Google then rejected 59.8% of one send. Every campaign lands in the Promotions tab. And out of roughly 358,000 people who open an email, about 2,300 click.

02 · THE 7 PROBLEMS

Here is each one.

1

Too many people mark the emails as spam

It hit 0.69% on 19 July. Google's limit is 0.30%. Go over it and Google downgrades the whole domain.

2

Google blocked 59.8% of one send

It flagged the emails as suspected spam and rejected them. Those subscribers never got anything at all.

3

Every campaign lands in Promotions

No phone notification. People only see the email if they go looking for it. Most never do.

4

Almost nobody clicks

0.35% click rate. That is roughly 1 click for every 286 emails. People open, look, and leave.

5

More people unsubscribe than click

On three campaigns, more subscribers left the list than clicked the email. That is the clearest warning sign in the data.

6

DMARC is broken

The main domain has a record, but it is set up wrong. The domain that actually sends the mail has no record at all.

7

Nobody is watching the real sender

Google Postmaster tracks oliviajewelry.com. But the mail actually goes out from send.oliviajewelry.com, which nobody is monitoring.

03 · THE WORST PROBLEM

358,000 people open. 2,300 click.

This is where the money is going. Here is what happens to a typical campaign sent to 650,000 people.

Klaviyo puts a warning icon on the click rate itself. Everything else is green.

04 · WHERE THE EMAILS LAND

Every campaign goes to Promotions.

We sent a live test. It landed in the Promotions tab, not Primary. That means no phone notification, so time-sensitive emails get seen days late or not at all. Moving to Primary is worth 10% or more on open rates.

The sending domain is not properly set up either

DMARC tells Gmail what to do when an email fails a security check. Right now it is misconfigured on one domain and completely missing on the other.

oliviajewelry.com Set up wrong
v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:•••••••••@gmail.com;
  • Reports point at an unverified Gmail address, so they will never actually arrive.
  • p=none means nothing happens when an email fails the check.
send.oliviajewelry.com Nothing there
DMARC record not found
  • This is the domain that actually sends every marketing email.
  • It has no DMARC policy and no monitoring attached to it at all.
05 · THE GOOD NEWS

Nine things we do not need to touch.

This account is not broken. Everything underneath is working. It just is not converting.

06 · WHAT WE'D FIX

Eight things, in this order.

01

Get the emails into the Primary tab

The fastest win. Worth 10% or more on open rates straight away.

First
02

Stop the spam complaints

Find what is causing them (content, frequency or list quality) and cut it off before Google drops the domain rating.

First
03

Fix DMARC on both domains

Repair the main record and publish a proper one on the domain that actually sends.

First
04

Start monitoring the real sending domain

Add it to Google Postmaster Tools so we can actually see what Gmail thinks of it.

First
05

Run a maintenance sending plan

Send more emails to people who reliably engage, so complaints become a much smaller share of total volume.

Then
06

Clean the list

Remove spam traps, dead addresses and people who have not opened anything in months.

Then
07

Stop blasting the full list

Sale emails go to all 650,000 people. Tighten that and send to people who actually click instead.

Then
08

Rewrite the emails to get clicks

Real offers, real urgency, one clear button. Target: 0.35% up to 0.50%.
